Community sports have a long history of providing space for people to connect, stay fit and healthy and enjoy a wide variety of sports together. All this is undermined when gambling, alcohol, and unhealthy food and drink companies use partnerships with sporting clubs and associations to promote their harmful products.
In 2023, VicHealth commissioned Common Cause Australia to perform qualitative research
to understand how staff from state sporting associations – state level governing bodies for sport in Victoria – feel about partnerships with brands and companies associated with harmful products, and what might encourage them to join VicHealth’s Healthier Partnerships in Sport Program.
