This message guide is intended for advocates working to encourage parents and carers to refrain from supplying alcohol to the young people in their care. It includes recommendations for how to frame alcohol harm and the role of parents in preventing it when talking to parents and guardians. The guide also includes a range of examples of evidence-based key messages advocates can use in their communications with parents.

The guide was developed following extensive national message research conducted by Common Cause Australia on behalf of Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) between February and July 2023. This research included advocate interviews, public discourse analysis, focus groups with parents, and dial testing of over 1,700 parents across Australia.
